Ian's nursery is FINALLY finished! There were lots of delays and snafus, so I guess it's a good thing we weren't planning on having him sleep there in the beginning. He's been sleeping in a babybay co-sleeper since we brought him home, and I'm not quite ready for him to be out of our room yet, but I'm glad that the room is ready for when that day comes. For now, we use the nursery for changing and rocking, and I sometimes set him down in the crib while I put his laundry away or something like that. He loves this room! Whenever we set him down on the changing pad, he gets super smiley. Since the first couple of weeks, he has loved staring at the frame of the mirror and the shadows on the wall. This is the first time I've gotten to decorate a nursery, and I've had so much fun with it. Below are some before and after pictures, as well as pictures of the work in progress and the finished product.
Yes, we did get a different crib. We got the first one from an online site, kind-of like ebay, and it turned out to be a lot lighter than we thought. It also had a drop-side, which is now supposed to be unsafe, so, we ordered a new one. We had to get it from England, because after many hours of searching, I could not find any cribs made of dark brown wood in France! Seriously, it's like they don't exist. All the cribs in France are white or pine/light wood color. I had to order the cute lamp, diaper stacker, quilt and valence from the States, because you just don't find that stuff here either. My mom brought it all in an extra suitcase when she came.
How about those red walls? I love the green and brown that we chose; it feels so much like being out in nature. I had to order the rocking chair from England, because it seems that upholstered rocking chairs are another thing that are as yet unknown in France. They have the old-fashioned, wooden ones, but that's it. I also ordered a glider for the living room. The French seriously don't know what they're missing!
I wanted the girls to leave their mark on the nursery as well, and since they're both fantastic artists, I asked them to help with the decorating. Serena and a friend of hers painted the mural on the wall behind the crib, and Bea did a drawing of the fox from Disney's Fox and the Hound. I love that Ian will be able to look at his sisters' artwork as he hangs out in his crib.
I love these photos of baby forest animals! Babies are so cute...in any species. I also hung a picture of Kevin and me and one of the two girls. Ian loves looking at them when we sit in the big chair.
I hope you enjoyed the tour...thanks for stopping by!
