Versailles Get-Away

Saturday night Kevin and I spent a luxurious night at the Trianon Palace Hotel in Versailles. It wasn't quite a "babymoon," since it was only one night, but it was a wonderful end-of-pregnancy get-away. I suppose you could say it was our last "hurrah" before the baby, where we could lounge around and pamper ourselves. The hotel is right at the edge of the Versailles gardens (in the picture, the gardens are just to the left and behind the hotel).

The girls and Kevin have this week off of school for the Fall break.  French schools take two weeks, so Beatrix will have next week off as well. She is spending this week with her friend - she went with Laura's family to the Limousin region to visit Laura's grandmother. She's been riding ponies and exploring the countryside...lucky girl!  Serena is spending the week alternating between going to friend's houses and having friends come over to our house. She's soaking up the relaxation time away from school.

Kev and I went to the hotel, planning to relax by the pool, go out to dinner and just recharge. The pool was amazing, and Kevin enjoyed the sauna and hammam (steam room).  I skipped the hot places (oh, the things I already sacrifice for this baby...), but I made a reservation at the spa to make up for it!  After laying by the pool Saturday afternoon, we were too lazy to go out to dinner, so I took a bath while Kevin went to get takeout (he really is the best). Pizza in the room was just about our speed.  The next morning we took advantage of the fabulous buffet breakfast and went back to the pool.  It was a beautiful day, and when I went to my spa appointment, Kevin headed outside to the terrace to soak up some rays. I got a prenatal massage and a facial - it was absolute bliss. The best part of the trip was yet to come...we only had to drive 7 minutes to get home! One of the best parts of living where we do is being so close to so many incredible places.

We kept wondering what was up on the balcony level. I found out later when I went to the spa - those are all the treatment rooms.

It wasn't quite hot enough for me, so Kevin waited until I went to the spa before heading outside to lay in the sun.

Bread...glorious bread!

Of course, there was a lot of other stuff besides bread at the buffet...eggs (cooked to order), meats, yogurt, cereal, etc., but I couldn't be bothered with that because....just LOOK at all the bread!

Don't let the picture fool you...I just liked the bright colors.  I didn't actually eat any of these lovely veggies. Shame on me, I know.

The orange juice was out of this world! I have been nuts over orange juice for this whole pregnancy, and this stuff was freshly squeezed heaven!

Isn't Kevin just a healthy guy? Protein, carbs and fruit. Good for him.

And then there's me.  Bread, bread, and more bread (but I did have the orange juice and some grapefruit.  That counts for something, right?).

It might be just a little dangerous that this spa is so close to where we live. It was pretty darn fantastic.

Hey, LivInCA from thebump here. I lived in Paris for 7 glorious months (in 2006) and my mom still lives there. I'm having serious withdrawal, planning on visiting next September (was going to go this September, but pregnancy changed that!). So seeing all of your beautiful pictures of the baguettes, pain au chocolat, croissants, and fromage made me want to hop on a plane tonight! I loved visiting Versailles. Did you check out le Petit Trianon and Marie Antoinette's farm?

Hi! I know what you mean about the breads and cheeses - they're the best part of living here! We love Marie Antoinette's farm! I get such a kick out of her "peasant cottage." I used to teach European History, and I always used it as an example of how out of touch she was with the real peasants. Let me know when you're here visiting! Our November babies can play together in the Versailles gardens!

Moving from America to France with two preteen girls, two dogs and a cat was an incredible adventure. After four years living just outside of Paris, the Family McLean headed back to the U.S. (minus the cat, but with a new baby boy). Four years later, we're leaving Raleigh, NC, and heading to Egypt (with another little boy in tow...)
